KALE SMOOTHIE AND TRUST
As a mother with growing children on her hands and a healthcare practitioner, I realize the importance of what I feed my children and that plays a major role in my decision about
what to put on the table at any point in time.
Also, the realization that I am playing a huge role in
their future diet decisions. With all these lurking at the back of my mind, I try to find the
beautiful balance between healthy and appealing!
I am almost certain that I can hear several mother’s groan in the background…. because
this is THE CHALLENGE!!!
Oh well, I have never been one to shy away from challenges!
I recently felt that we hadn’t been getting enough green veggies.
I tried to make yam
porridge, but we were not all as enthusiastic about it as I expected.
And then I stumbled on a post and in it the lady was drinking a kale smoothie.
Hmmmm, I wondered to myself why I hadn’t ever thought about itπ€π€π€
Bright and early on a beautiful Saturday morning, I set out to make kale smoothie.
My oldest walks into the kitchen and says “mom, what are you making?”
Me: smoothie
Him: yeahhhhhhh! ππΌππΌππΌ My kids love love love smoothies.
The excitement stayed until he walked around me and was in direct view of the blender,
suddenly his face has creases in it...
Son: “mom, why is it green?’
Me: because I am making kale smoothie
Son: ehmmm, I don’t think I want smoothie that much!
And he runs off to inform his sister of how I ruined the smoothie.
Both of them march into the kitchen to inform me of how yucky kale is and how they were not
even going to taste the smoothie.
I ask them if they think me a terrible cook, and both echo resounding NOs unanimously.
I went ahead to ask them to trust me and that they would like the smoothie as much as they
like most other things I make for them.
My daughter was skeptical but willing to try. My son was having none of it as he was super
certain that it would not taste good
My heart faltered a bit at this resistance despite my brave front but of course I continued.
I made sure to add lots of banana and grapes though.
When I was done, I asked them to come and have a taste, my son pushed the sister forward to go ahead and taste it after much cajoling.
And with bated breath we both waited for the verdict
Sister: pauses dramatically after eating it and when she could not hold it back any more
she says “mom, this is not good with another pause (my heart sank, my son looked
vindicated) then she goes on, this is GREAT!
DRAMA QUEEN!!!
Can I have some more? She says
Son proceeds to ask his sister if she was absolutely certain and instead of reassuring him as
he wanted, she asked me for his own share of he smoothie and that was his impetus to try.
And suddenly, we went from YUCKY to FABULOUS!
And of course they were asking for kale
smoothie for breakfast, so much so that I had to hoard it else ICE and I would not have had any to eat.
Not long after that, the precious Holy Spirit asked me “how many times have you declined
my blessings/opportunities because they came dressed as a glass of kale smoothie?’
I had no answer to this!
And he reminded me of Matt 7: 11: *if ye being evil know how to give* *good gifts to your children, how much more will your father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask of Him!*
Today, pause and consider the “glasses” you have rejected because they did not come
dressed as your flavor of goodie.
Do you trust the heavenly father enough to know that He
will only give you good things?
