My coat of many colors
Welcome to a deeply personal reflection on life's subtle challenges. Here, I share a story that explores the delicate balance of favoritism and how I learned to navigate its complexities, turning potential pitfalls into pathways of personal growth. This is a journey of understanding, resilience, and finding one's own unique place.
MY COAT OF MANY COLORS.
FLASHBACK TO 2024.
On a bright, sunny and fateful day while lounging in bed and most likely reading, my door burst open and in comes my trio led by my then 9 YO with very serious/borderline anxious expressions on the faces of the older two
As soon as the came in, they beelined to my bed. I paused what i was reading for a minute and gave them my full attention as they climbed into my bed with me.
Without any preamble and a very straight face, my 9 YO says:
Mom, who is your favorite?
Me: I took some time to assess the faces of the two older ones (my toddler could not be bothered, all he knew and was happy about was the fact that he had access to my room).
I noted the expectancy on their faces, each probably wishing that they would be chosen.
Me: feigning absolute calm and some measure of disinterest(even though I was between laughing out loud and curiosity as to the origin of the question) turned to my toddler to ensure that he does not spoil anything, I said "DADDY is my favorite"!!!
They were crestfallen as it was neither the answer they wanted or feared.
Then my 6 YO with eyes as round as a saucer draws back and says "mom, you mean you carried daddy in your tummy and gave birth to him to be your baby?
At this point, I definitely couldn't hold back on my laughter any more
Me: NO! but he is my baby and the favorite.
[
They waited a while during which they tried cajoling me to arrive at the answer they wanted. When this failed, they digested the news, muttered a bit among themselves and then they filed out of my room.
As soon as they were out of the door i said to myself
"Ah, ah, my little munchkins, do you think that i have lived on this earth this long to not have learnt anything from the heroes and heroines of faith like Jacob and Rebekkah? Mba!!!
I have given my coat of many colors to ICE!
Oya, you people can now band together and try selling him let's see what comes of it!
